Yesterday marks the end of our official Sunday School time! Wow! We continued examining what the Bible has to say about homosexuality, and put a hold on the conversation till we can meet again.
Exit 89 went very well, and all the students seem to be getting along swimmingly. In the near future I will be putting together a calendar of events that are going to be running throughout the summer. Ill make sure to send out an email about that so everyone gets a copy. I want to be sure that parents know about events as far in advance as possible, despite the fact that a lot of what we do is kind of last minute. I want to say thanks for all the patience you have had with me as I transitioned into this role, and I'm interested to hear any suggestions that you may have as we head into what is usually a "down" period for the HS youth. Anything that you have especially liked, or any constructive criticism could be sent via email, or in person. Have a wonderful week, and expect that calendar soon!

Good morning!
Yesterday was our second to last day with Sunday school before the year ends! We began a new conversation that is going to take much longer than the single week we have left, but more on that later! We began talking about what the Bible says about being gay. This is a conversation we have touched on before, but I think the Sunday school setting will allow a few more voices to be heard. We also encouraged them to ask you what your personal stance on the matter is, so don't be surprised if that comes up at some point this week. Obviously, this is the kind of conversation that will last a few weeks. So that brings us back to our dilemma of Sunday school technically ending. As most of you are aware, I have been having the youth come over to my house on Friday nights for what were going to start calling "Fellowship Fridays." Previously called "game night," the goal was to provide an ongoing connection point for our students where they can invite friends and have fun together. This is still going to be the primary objective for Fridays, but as our times of intentional study come to a close, I also want to provide something similar that will continue to run beyond the regular program year. I have thought extensively about what kind of material we are going to offer during this time, as it's not technically a FRCZ program. For the immediate future, we are going to continue pushing through our current Sunday school curriculum, so as to finish those topics of discussion. After that, I will most likely tone back the heavy theological discussion and use Sundays as a Bible study event. As for Exit 89 last night, we had a great time sharing what a regular night of IMPACT looks like. I am very encouraged by how well the incoming class jumped right into the normal swing of things. We also had a conversation last night about what the church is. This was ultimately to ask students how the High school youth group can best serve them, as they are the future of the Church. We have some stated values now, and I hope to share those with you soon in a more official format. Moving forward I will try to keep this website growing and developing as our group does. Thank you all for the love and the support that has been poured out on Christy and I these past few weeks, we appreciate it a lot :) Have a wonderful week! |
