This week we will be joining the congregation for the Ash Wednesday service. We will still start downstairs, Joe, Dave and Ellen's group will pack bags for Hand2Hand, we will do a quick intro of what Ash Wednesday is and then we will head upstairs and sit together as a group for the service. We will receive the imposition of ashes and then head back to the Youth Center to debrief in our small groups.
Peace & Blessings!
We're back to a typical Wednesday night this week and will be looking at the checkpoint 'Others First'. We will talk about why it is hard to think of others before ourselves and even harder to put others before our selves. We will use Philippians 2:3-11 to look at how Jesus treated others and how we are called to follow his example. We will ask students to think about where their priorities are at and how we can make small shifts in our everyday lives to put others first. You can talk with your student about why it's hard not to be selfish and encourage them to pick one area where they can put someone else's interests above their own (it may even be with a sibling!)
Next week is Ash Wednesday but we will still meet in the youth center to start and end the night.
Peace and blessings to you!
This week we are changing it up! Kids will head downtown with a small group and $3 each to spend time with each other but also decide between needs and wants when buying snacks/drinks at Fuzzy Peach, Mainstreet Beanery and Out of the Box. At the end of the night, the group with the most money left over will decide which organization we will donate all of the leftover money to. We hope this time can be fruitful in building and strengthening friendships and also a learning time where kids see that when we don't act on all of our wants, we have space and resources to give to others. [Each student should bring $3]
We hope conversations are going well at home! This week we will be discussing Ultimate Authority. Our main passage will be Romans 13:1-2. Scoggan will be talking about what it looks like to have God as the ultimate authority in our lives and the freedom that comes from that. We will challenge students to pick a way they will live under authority this week. You can talk with your student about how they plan to live under God's authority this week and discuss throughout the week what challenges they are facing and what freedom they are experiencing in following Gods authority.
Grace and peace to you this week!
